Repairs & Renovations
Repairs
Each renovation project will be carefully staged with support from famed golf course architect, Tom Fazio, alongside the new golf course management group Commonwealth Golf Partners - Asheville (CGPA) beginning as early as November 2022. Major repairs are needed and planned to correct the damaged water drainage system, diverting rainwater run-off which pours into the Swannanoa River, raising water levels that affect the neighboring communities and the golf course itself, drowning fairways and greens, up-rooting asphalt cart paths, and washing out bunkers.
The city has graciously budgeted $1.1 million for improvements to storm drainage infrastructure, but we need more. We need more to correct existing problems at The Asheville Muni and to prevent future problems, and we are here to advocate for the immediate and long-term future of the historical golf course. Funding requested through the TDA and other sources would cover stormwater, collection, tee box repairs, upgrades, and green and sand trap improvements. Capital projects to be funded by the Friends of The Muni include stormwater remediation and irrigation, greens and bunker updates, regrowing grass on the fairway, dead tree removal, thinning and replacement of landscaping, cart path repairs, and installation of historical markers, and clubhouse refreshers. Work on the bunker, tree removal, and cart paths could begin as early as the winter of 2023 but significant stormwater improvements are not expected until fall 2023.

Renovation & Funding
The City of Asheville is underwriting a significant capital improvement project here at the Asheville Municipal Golf Course. The project will be managed and executed by CGPA on behalf of the City. The City is responsible for raising the funds to execute the project and is paying CGPA a 4% management fee on all capital projects exceeding $25,000.
In total a target Phase 1 budget is $3.5 Million, through a mix of City of Asheville Capital Improvement funds, user based fees, and grants. To date over $2.7 Million has been committed to the project, with additional grants and funding sources pending.
