Asheville Municipal Programs
Youth Programs
The Asheville Golf Course honored with a ‘Top 10 Youth On Course Award’ for facilities for North & South Carolina. This Carolina Golf Association program was created to help eliminate the biggest barrier to golf…cost. By participating in this program, golf becomes affordable for juniors at only $5 per round, allowing more access and more diversity to the local Asheville community.
The municipal golf course along with other area golf courses, both public and private, host the Asheville Area PGA Junior League program with approximately 100 diverse junior golfers.
The First Tee Program for the Asheville area utilizes the Asheville Municipal Golf Course as their practice facility. The First Tee program offered (2) 6-week programs. The First Tee Community Program is a fun, engaging opportunity for kids to learn the game of golf and core values at affordable prices. The program introduces golf using games flexible to the ages and abilities of kids involved.
Veterans Programs
The Asheville Municipal Golf Course works with the local PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) program, the flagship military program of PGA REACH, its charitable foundation of the PGA of America. PGA HOPE introduces golf to Veterans with disabilities to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being. The local program works closely with the local VA Hospital and local veterans. The program introduces the game of golf through a developmental 6-8 week curriculum, taught by PGA Professionals trained in adaptive golf and military cultural competency. All programs are funded by PGA REACH and supplemented by PGA Section Foundations, so the cost of programming is free to all Veterans.
High School Programs
Local area middle and high school golf teams use the municipal golf course to practice and play matches at no cost to the students or the schools. Other area courses charge the schools and students fees to use the facilities hampering the inclusion of students and schools with budgetary constraints. We believe that supporting local schools regardless of gender or ethnic background is vital to the community and the future of golf in the Asheville area.
The Muni hosts several golf tournaments during the season. These tournaments raise money for local community charities.
